Yes, for sites whose evacuation diagrams I have drawn. It is the evacuation part of your emergency plan, not the whole plan. I write it from those diagrams: the evacuation steps, the main and back-up way out from every diagram location to the assembly point, where the fire equipment and first aid kits are, and helping anyone who needs assistance, with the diagrams included. The details only your business holds (who runs an evacuation, contacts, training, who keeps the plan current) are marked fields in an editable Word copy, for you to complete (or your fire safety adviser, if you have one). In Queensland it is set out as the fire and evacuation plan for your building (or your part of it), for you to check, complete and adopt. In NSW, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory, it forms the evacuation procedures of the emergency plan that work health and safety regulations require for each workplace. In Victoria, it forms the evacuation part of the emergency management plan that WorkSafe Victoria's compliance code describes. You add what is specific to your site, such as other kinds of emergency. Some sites have extra rules of their own, for example Tasmanian buildings that need a plan approved by the Tasmania Fire Service Chief Officer, WA cinemas and licensed venues, NSW entertainment venues and Victorian dangerous goods sites. Yes. If your Australian business premises are occupied by staff, visitors, or the public, you are expected to have evacuation diagrams displayed on site. Work health and safety law requires every workplace to have an emergency plan (regulation 43 of the model WHS Regulations; Victoria has its own OHS laws), and Safe Work Australia's model Code of Practice says that plan should include a displayed site plan of exits, fire equipment and assembly points. Some states go further: in Queensland the fire and evacuation plan must include an evacuation diagram. Australian Standard AS 3745:2010 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities) is the benchmark those diagrams are drawn to. These duties apply to offices, retail shops, restaurants, cafes, warehouses, schools, medical clinics, gyms, childcare centres, and hotels. Fire authorities, local councils, and insurers across Australia expect compliance.

AS 3745:2010 is the Australian Standard titled "Planning for emergencies in facilities." It sets out requirements for emergency planning including what evacuation diagrams must contain, how they must be oriented, and where they must be displayed. It is written for any facility that has occupants, including commercial, industrial, and public buildings. It is a voluntary standard: the legal duties come from work health and safety and state fire safety law, and AS 3745 is the benchmark used to meet them. Compliance is expected by fire authorities, building inspectors, and insurance providers. EvacPath produces all diagrams to meet AS 3745 requirements.

This remote process makes it faster and more affordable than traditional providers who charge site visit fees.

There is no fixed number. AS 3745 asks for diagrams where occupants and visitors can see them and leaves the number and location to your Emergency Planning Committee (clause 3.5.2). In practice the usual set covers each main entrance and exit, the lift lobby or main corridor on each level, and the points where occupants choose a direction, with each diagram drawn for the spot where it hangs. Inside guest rooms the law steps in only for short stays: Queensland requires an evacuation sign in each hotel room and short-stay accommodation unit (Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008, s 48), and NSW requires a diagram on or next to the entry door and in each bedroom of short-term rental accommodation (Short-term Rental Accommodation Fire Safety Standard, s 5.5). Mount it on the wall beside the entry door rather than on the door: hotel room and apartment entry doors are usually fire doors, and FPA Australia advises against fixing diagrams to them unless the fixing has been tested or approved.

Technically yes, but it is not recommended. AS 3745 has specific requirements for diagram content, sizing, symbols, orientation, and placement. A diagram that does not meet these requirements may fail a fire safety audit or inspection. Professional diagrams ensure compliance and accuracy.

All diagrams are delivered as high-resolution, print-ready PDF files. Every diagram we draw carries optional elements such as emergency numbers, so AS 3745 sets A3 as its minimum: print each one at 100% scale on A3 paper, or enlarge it for a bigger sheet, never shrink it.

No. EvacPath is digital-only. You receive print-ready PDF diagrams (AS 3745 compliant, drawn at A3) that you or any local printer (for example Officeworks) can print at 100% scale, laminate, and mount. Physical printing and on-site installation are not included in the service.

Diagrams should be reviewed and updated after any building renovation, changes to fire equipment locations, changes to exit routes, or changes to assembly areas. As a general rule, review them at least every 5 years. If your building layout has changed since the diagrams were created, they should be replaced.

Non-compliant or missing evacuation diagrams can result in fines from local council or fire authorities, failed building inspections, insurance complications after an incident, and liability exposure if someone is injured during an evacuation.

SDA buildings have specific evacuation considerations including a Mobility Impaired Persons panel that prioritises alerting support staff and calling 000, accessible exit pathways, and assembly areas suited to occupants with limited mobility. Each unit diagram is oriented to the viewer's facing direction per AS 3745 clause 3.5.4. A typical 4-unit SDA build needs around 13 to 14 diagrams (one per primary bedroom, visitor bedroom, and kitchen or living area, plus utility building diagrams). AS 3745 requirements for SDA accommodation are the same as for any commercial occupancy, with two practical adjustments. First, the Mobility Impaired Persons panel takes priority over generic RACE wording because resident mobility is the defining occupancy characteristic. The text focuses on alerting support staff, calling 000, and remaining in a safe area if evacuation is not possible. Second, diagram orientation per clause 3.5.4 (heads-up direction matching the viewer's actual facing) is especially important in SDA because residents may rely on the diagram to anticipate the path ahead. Each placement location (typically primary bedroom, visitor bedroom, and kitchen or living area) gets its own oriented diagram even within the same unit. We also align symbol colour and legend conventions with AS 3745 expectations: red filled circle for smoke alarms, blue filled circle for sprinkler heads, green for exit paths and assembly areas.
